Timber Veneer is back and it is being used in almost any room and surface. Timber Veneer is more useful than solid timber as the decorative uses are far greater since it can be used in many more applications than solid timber due to its construction. Solid timber can sometimes warp and is a lot more heavier than Timber Veneer, limiting the uses for Solid Timber compared to Timber Veneer.
True Timber Veneer is made from very thinly sliced pieces of real timber that is then bonded to a backing such as MDF, particle board, plywood or solid core blackboard. And then there is laminate which is made from paper and plastic resins, so a synthetic version of Timber Veneer – it doesn’t have the same feel but it does have the same look as true Timber Veneer.
Timber Veneer is no longer just used in small areas such as for joinery like cupboard fronts and tops like it once was. Timber Veneer is now being used in larger areas such as feature walls and ceilings to create even more impact. Check out how effective Timber Veneer can be with these latest trends…….
Tip: If you are concerned about getting sick of your Timber Veneer or the look dating too quickly, then never fear as it can easily be covered by paint or if it’s true Timber Veneer can be re-stained. Painting over Timber Veneer or even laminate is now very easy to do – all you’ll need is a special undercoat that is designed for these are to stick surfaces such as Dulux Precision Maximum Strength Adhesion Primer. Before you prime the Timber Veneer, you’ll need to sand or scuff it down first with sand paper or a scouring pad to de-gloss the surface to a flat and dull finish. Once dusted down, apply one coat of Dulux Precision Maximum Strength Adhesion Primer and allow to dry for at least 24 hours. Once this time has passed, you can then apply two top coats of your desired paint finish and colour such as a water based enamel.
If you opt for true Timber Veneer, it’s best to seal and to protect it with a coating. Clears are the best choice if you don’t want to change the colour of the Timber Veneer and want to retain its natural beauty.
