Transitional Design

If you love both contemporary and traditional then Transitional Design is the style for you!  Transitional Design is the mixing of modern and classical coming together to give you the best of both worlds.  Think classical architecture with modern pieces of furniture and contemporary colours.  Or a modern clean line home dressed with some classical pieces.  This style is perfect if you have traditional pieces from either your previous home or that have been handed down to you as you can still use these but with a modern approach and without dating your space.  The best part about Transitional Design is that it's timeless unlike many current trends, so ideal for those that don't like to re-decorate very often.  Check out these ageless ways in how you can make your space Transitional......

Tip: If you are creating this style from scratch, start with a soft neutral palette (greys, whites, beige, blues) and add texture with your fabrics and furnishings such as corduroy, cotton, chenille, velvets and suedes. And when choosing furniture, look at plush pieces and incorporate textural elements such as wood, glass, lacquer, rattan, fabric, steel and metal.  Modern artwork is another way to add some interest to the room and give it that modern feel, but use sparingly and choose something large with impact. And don't go overtop with decor and accessories as "less is more" still applies to this style.
