Copper is one of the very few metals that has a warm appearance to it and can instantly add warmth to a space. Metals have become a popular choice of material in both architectural and interior design as they work well with natural materials such as brick, stone, concrete and timber. Copper is also very versatile as it suits many styles from either ultra modern industrial through to more classical timeless spaces. And Copper is pretty much used anywhere these days from walls, splash backs, exposed pipework, tapware, handles, light fittings and other fixtures including home decor.
And now you can create a Copper surface yourself using paint! Haymes make a paint in their Artisan Range which is made from Real Copper. Haymes Real Copper also comes with an Oxidising Patina so you can easily add that natural aged Patina look to your Copper Paint finish. Haymes Real Copper is a water-based paint containing real copper flakes. It can be used both inside and outside, is suitable for most paintable surfaces and responds well to a variety of application methods.
Tips: Since Copper naturally has a strong colour about it, you don’t want to over complicate your space with too many colours, especially if you want the Copper to be the main feature. It’s best to keep the rest of your space neutral or choose another colour as an accent. Whites, Dark Greys and Blacks work well against Copper as it doesn’t overpower the Copper and are a nice contrast to really “set-off” your Copper. If you want to create drama and mood within your space, then opt for darker neutrals against the Copper whereas if you prefer a more bright and airy space then think about using Whites as your main complimenting colour. Either way, Copper is reflective and highly metallic so whichever way you choose to go with your contrasting colours, Copper will still add warmth and interest to any space.
