When many think of an all timber kitchen they often think of a traditional solid timber kitchen, but not all timber kitchens need to be traditional. Many modern kitchens are now using a lot of timber whether it’s timber veneer, solid timber or laminate, there are many ways you can have a modern all timber kitchen.
If you are concerned of having too much timber, then a great way to break up some of that timber grain is by adding some feature stone in a bench and or splash back. If you choose a lighter stone this can help to lighten and soften the overall timber look or a coloured stone can add some contrasting colour to your kitchen and to help break up the brown. If you have timber flooring and timber cabinetry and in particular bottom timber cupboards then you may want to go for contrasting timber for flooring and cabinetry (lighter or darker to each other) to make each a feature in themselves. And if you don’t have the same type of timbers you will then want them to look different rather than trying to match them as you will never get them the same and this will be obvious and could look like a mistake.
If you choose to have solid natural timber for your cabinetry then you will want to protect it against spills and stains with a protective coating. We have many timber coating products with many different finishes such as looking like bare timber, different gloss levels and stains if you are wanting to change the colour of the timber. If you are wanting your timber to look modern and as natural as possible without changing the colour too much its best to stick to a water based clear as oil based clears will bring out the richer colours of the timber and will golden and yellow over time. Water based clears won’t change colour and will make the timber look lighter than an oil based clear and very similar to when the timber is wet.
